Weld County Fair Board Minutes

October 6, 2025


Meeting called to order by President Aaron Helus at 6:00 p.m.

Members Present: Aaron Helus, Landon Cogburn, Isaia Aracayos, Levi Loveland, Tom Bledsoe, and Bailey Naibauer

Ex-Officio/Staff Present: Mikayla Gabel, Cheryl Aragon, Larry Hooker

Special Guests: Hodgson Family

Agenda: Special Guests and Zoom Option

Motion to approve changes and consent agenda by Levi Loveland, second by Tom Bledsoe; motion passed.

SPECIAL GUESTS/REQUESTS:

1) Royalty Update – Queen Addison shared update and looks forward to new year.
2) Hodgson Family – discussion with Addison and Tyler and an explanation of what happened with goat this year.

Old Business:

 1) Working Budget – nothing at this time 2) Fair Coordinator Update – budget work session 10/14 at 6:30 PM, open board seat will be posted and filled soon, Junior Fair Board committee meeting will start meeting this month

New Business:

1) Committee SOP’s – MOTION to approve all SOP’s as submitted by Tom Bledsoe, second Landon Cogburn; motion passed
2) Committee Liaisons – recommendations from Mikayla as listed below and agreed on by the Board
3) Board Nominations – Nominations: Landon Cogburn President, Aaron Helus Vice President, Levi Loveland Treasurer, Isaia Aricayos Secretary, MOTION to accept officers as nominated by Tom Bledsoe, second by Levi Loveland; motion passed.
4) Camper Fee Comparison – information presented to board to consider, will have on agenda for next meeting
5) ZOOM – MOTION to discontinue having a ZOOM link available for regular monthly board meetings by Tom Bledsoe, second by Landon Cogburn; motion passed.
6) Platte River Re-direct public meetings – Landon attended a South Platte River redirect meeting with the city, the proposed changes would impact Island Grove and the Fairground
7) Committee Reports: a. Premier Exhibitor (Tom Bledsoe) – nothing to report at this time b. Carcass Contest (Isaia Aricayos) – pending writing sale checks, waiting on a few things right now c. All Around Showmanship (Tom Bledsoe) – nothing to report at this time d. Drug Testing (Landon Cogburn) – Lynn presented drug testing results for second test indicating animal had meloxicam in system, prescription documentation from vet presented and followed, not listed on cool form because it was well beyond cool down period, however, it was brought to our attention that this does not leave the system (this includes other livestock breeds as well and may pose a problem in future), processing, buyback, shipping and test costs total $790.73, MOTION by Landon Cogburn to have exhibitor pay $790.74 total for listed costs and in-person apology to board and commissioners, second by Tom Bledsoe; motion passed with a vote of 3-2. e. Junior Fair Board (Aaron Helus) – report given at Fair Coordinator update f. Junior Livestock Sale (Bailey Neibauer) – sale checks went out g. Security, Parking and Risk Mgmt (Levi Loveland) – MOTION to accept committee member application submitted for Luke by Tom Bledsoe, second by Landon Cogburn; motion passed. h. Royalty (Aaron Helus) – report presented by Queen Addison, Gala fundraiser event raised around $1,300, great event but attendance was lower than the previous year, committee will consider how to promote and increase attendance for next year i. Livestock Animal Health (Landon Cogburn) – three 3-year terms conclude this year, one would like to continue, applications and recommendations have been received and presented to Board for review, MOTION to approve Faith and Case application for 3-year term by Landon Cogburn, second by Bailey Neibauer; motion passed, will continue with subcommittee for wristbands to continue refining the process to make it as effective as possible; judge selection process – board will continue review of procedures.

  2. Recognition dinner October 7, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., Exhibition Building
  3. Budget Work Session October 14, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., Extension Office
