Weld County Fair Board Meeting

June 1, 2026

Meeting called to order by President Landon Cogburn at 6:00 PM

MEMBERS PRESENT: Aaron Helus, Landon Cogburn, Tom Bledsoe, Fred Kayser, Isaia Aricayos

EX-OFFICIO/STAFF PRESENT: Mikayla Gabel, Cheryl Aragon, Kim Easton and Larry Hooker

SPECIAL GUESTS: Royalty, Junior Fair Board

Additions/Changes to agenda: MOTION to approve consent agenda by Tom Bledsoe, second by Aaron Helus; motion passed.

MOTION to approve May financials by Tom Bledsoe, second by Aaron Helus; motion passed.

SPECIAL GUESTS/REQUESTS:

1) Royalty – Attendant Tessa, busy with past and future events, new sponsors received

2) Junior Fair Board – trying to get community more involved, has a few ideas they are working on

OLD BUSINESS:

1) Fair Staff Update – entries open, CFW group will have shavings trailer and asking about preferable times to be available, board recommends 6-11AM and 3-6PM; need to schedule time for working on Fair stampede parade float, looking at possibly 7/27 and 7/28 if necessary.

2) Entertainment Update – special event permit for pavilion concert to serve alcohol and have security, completing permit process at the moment, ID checking and sales set up by CO farm show, Greeley PD training scheduled mid-June, all are invited; Team Roping will not happen this year due to limited availability.

NEW BUSINESS:

1) Committee Reports:

a. Premier Exhibitor (Tom Bledsoe) – nothing to report currently

b. Carcass Contest (Isaia Aricayos) – working with Kristy to clarify sponsorship for the event; she will get back to us

c. All Around Showmanship (Tom Bledsoe) – judging contracts finalized

d. Drug Testing (Landon Cogburn) – packet not completed before entries open, but will continue working on it for next year; MQA clarification on vet signing off still pending, MQA is State level requirements – looking ahead to electronic drug forms and signing to submit entries; email will be sent with a drug testing form to all livestock families; committee is meeting this Wednesday, 6/3, 6:30PM

e. Junior Fair Board (Aaron Helus) – a member has missed 4 meetings this year, Committee agreement has an attendance requirement, failure may be subject to action, committee will review and bring a recommendation to the board for consideration

f. Junior Livestock Sale (Bailey Naibauer) – shavings ordered, appreciation dinner catering finalized; pictures will happen; custom kills – your choice meats, working on transportation; new backdrop being worked on now

g. Security, Parking and Risk Management (Levi Loveland) – will schedule meeting for this month, looking ahead for set up date, will need to coordinate sand after Stampede on grass maintenance

h. Royalty (Aaron Helus) – McKenna Adams new member application received and recommended by committee, MOTION to accept recommendation by Tom Bledsoe, seconded by Fred Kayser; motion passed.

i. Livestock Animal Health (Landon Cogburn) – committee members will help with checking wristbands at events, June will be last meeting before Fair

ANNOUNCEMENTS/GENERAL DISCUSSION:

1) Next Meeting Monday, July 6 @ 6 PM at McCarty’s at Eaton Country Club

2) MQA final training was this evening with several exhibitors not attending that need to attend if they want to participate in Fair showing animals. Board will monitor as it develops.
