Weld County Fair Board Minutes

July 7, 2025


The Meeting was called to order by President Aaron Helus at 6:00 p.m.

Members Present: Those present were President Aaron Helus, Vice President Landon Cogburn, Treasurer Courtney Smith, Secretary Isaia Aricayos, Board Members Tom Bledsoe, Levi Loveland, and Bailey Naibauer.

Ex-Officio/Staff Present: Mikayla Gabel, Kim Eastwood, and Cheryl Aragon

Special Guests: Felds Family

Agenda: Motion to approve agenda as amended by Landon Cogburn, second by Tom Bledsoe; motion passed. 

Consent Agenda: Motion to approve the Consent Agenda by Tom Bledsoe, second by Bailey Naibauer; motion passed. 

Special Guests/Requests:

  1. Commissioner Ross Report -- new Extension Director, Kali Benson introduced. 
  2. Royalty Update -- a lot of events in June and July, looking ahead to this year's Fair. 
  3. Felds Family --Brenden is looking to add a barrow not previously nominated for Fair but nominated for state, has all his nominated hogs, but some got sick, and looking like they will not make weight. He's requesting the board consider allowing him to add an additional barrow to bring to fair. After discussion a motion was made to uphold current rules for nominations. Motion by Landon Cogburn to NOT allow an additional nomination in this case, second by Levi Loveland; motion passed. 

Old Business:

  1. Jr. Fair Board -- previously released are SOP and not bylaws as previously indicated, Mikayla will present the correction to the commissioners, received on application so far for an advisor. 
  2. Working Budget --updated with current numbers, will need to evaluate after July to allocate per item and category. 
  3. Fair Coordinator Update -- we discussed announcers, Motion to contract with Braxton Hamblen for Beef, Swine, Sheep, Goat and Horse as announce by Landon Cogburn, second by Tom Bledsoe; motion passed. Magna wave therapy questions arose, need prescription from an injury on site by the vet on site. Motion to Magna Wave and Chiropractic care for all species only by prescription from vet onsite by Tom Bledsoe, second by Landon Cogburn; motion passed. No chuckwagon cookoff due to insufficient contestants. All RV spots are sold except for one where money has not been collected. Will keep name flagged if they try to check in. 40 vendors coming this year will have a food court area like Stampede. Change of layout for ribbon room area as an office space. 

New Business:

  1. Committee Reports (Board representation assignments drawn from hat annually)
  • Premier Exhibitor – Aaron Helus – nothing new to report. 
  • Carcass Contest – Levi Loveland – working on obtaining sponsorship money currently. 
  • All Around Showmanship – Isaia Aricayos – nothing new to report. 
  • Drug Testing – Courtney Smith – meeting scheduled this week 6:30p.m., Wednesday to determine scheduling and final details. 
  • Education -- Fair Office -- nothing new to report. 
  • Jr. Livestock Sale – Landon Cogburn – working on the meal for sale, finalizing online sales form. 
  • Security, Parking, and Risk Management – Landon Cogburn – will need help on set up, new signs received, City will do road closures, camper spot markings needed in B lot.  
  • Royalty – Tom Bledsoe – going well, working on new commitment forms, eight applications received for next year, orientation scheduled for Sunday, may need judges for interviews, need help for Friday's speeches and interviews. 
  • Livestock Animal Health – Bailey Naibauer – will have committee member at vet check hours, discussion of wristband monitors-- looking for volunteers at this time. 

Announcements/ General Discussion:

  1. Sand being delivered tomorrow for cattle ring. 
  2. Superintendent meeting 6p.m. 7/17/25, food and drinks available.
  3. Set up Fair Saturday, 7/19/25 8a.m. at fairgrounds.
  4. Next Meeting Monday, July 21, 2025 @ 12:00 p.m. at Weld County Extension Office.
