Weld County Fair Board Minutes

January 6, 2025

The Meeting was called to order by President Aaron Helus at 6:00 p.m.

Members Present: Those present were President Aaron Helus, Vice President Landon Cogburn, Secretary Isaia Aricayos, and Board Members Bailey Naibauer, Levi Loveland, and Tom Bledsoe.

Ex-Officio/Staff Present: Mikayla Gabel, Kim Eastwood (via Zoom), Larry Hooker

Special Guests: Commissioner Kevin Ross

Agenda: additions under new business for Fair Photographer 

Motion to approve the Consent Agenda by Tom Bledsoe, second by Landon Cogburn; motion passed.

Special Guests/Requests:

  1. Royalty Court – Princess Addison Tellez --January was very busy with parades and activities, this month's activities included NWSS and Farm Show. Looking for more sponsors and chatted with new at Farm Show. Getting ready for Beef ID Day the 2nd weekend in February. 

Old Business:

  1. Fair Book Honors --Shining Star -- Samantha Campbell. Motion to approve the candidate by Tom Bledsoe, second by Bailey Naibauer; motion passed.
  2. Working Budget -- No Update
  3. Fair Coordinator Update -- Data Entry position opens in February, 72 applicants for Assistant Position already, interviews for Director Position will be February 3rd and 4th. 

New Business:

  1. Committee Application -- All Around Showmanship -- Motion to approve applicant Robert Rosell as recommended by the committee by Tom Bledsoe, second by Landon Cogburn; motion passed. 
  2. Fair Book Changes -- None at this time.
  3. Truck Pull --The NSPA has conflicting times 7/12 has recommended to move the Truck Pull to 8/1 as a celebration of Fair. Motion to approve by Tom Bledsoe, second by Landon Cogburn; motion passed. 
  4. Fair Photographer -- Motion to approve and use Flying M Photography again as the Official Fair Photographer for 2025 by Landon Cogburn, second by Tom Bledsoe; motion passed.
  5. Committee Reports (Board representation assignments drawn from hat annually)
  • Premier Exhibitor – Aaron Helus –will work on scheduling a meeting.
  • Carcass Contest – Levi Loveland – will work on scheduling a meeting. 
  • All Around Showmanship – Isaia Aricayos –will work on scheduling a meeting.
  • Drug Testing – Courtney Smith -- Has a meeting February 12th at 6:30 p.m.
  • Jr. Livestock Sale – Landon Cogburn –nothing to report at this time.
  • Security, Parking, and Risk Management – Landon Cogburn – taking some spots out of full-service lot but will help with space. Camper spots open March 14th. 
  • Royalty – Tom Bledsoe – court meeting trying to move to next week to avoid Stock Show conflicts.  
  • Livestock Animal Health – Bailey Naibauer –Larry still working on bids for new cattle scales, thinking we could possibly pour a new concrete pad to keep it level & calibrated, but still looking into what it'll be to fix our current scale. Tom to talk with Bo & Hutchinson at Stock Show for a quote. Want to allow exhibitors to nominate in both breeding and market but only enter in one- tabled until next meeting. Motion to purchase rabbit show tables for $755.65 by recommendation from committee by Tom Bledsoe, second by Landon Cogburn; motion passed.

Announcements/ General Discussion:

  1. Next Meeting Monday, February 3, 2025 @ 6:00 p.m.
