Weld County Fair Board Minutes

February 5, 2024


Meeting called to order by President Aaron Helus at 6:00 p.m.

Members Present: Aaron Helus, Bailey Naibauer, Levi Loveland, Tom Bledsoe and Courtey Smith.  Isaia Aricayos was excused.

Ex-Officio/Staff Present: Hannah Swanbom, Larry Hooker, Cheryl Aragon and Kim Eastwood (via Zoom)

Special Guests: Commissioner Buck (via Zoom), Joseph Mack

Agenda: additions under new business

Motion to approve the Consent Agenda by Tom Bledsoe, second by Levi Loveland; motion passed.

Special Guests/Requests:

  1. Royalty update – A Royalty Updated was provided to the Board.  

Old Business:

  1. Update from Committee on Miniature Class for Market Beef - this item is awaiting a recommendation from Livestock Committee.
  2. Weld County Fair Sanctioning - Katrina Loveland offered a summary of the simple application and process for sanctioning the entire Weld County Fair.  The Board gave the authorization to proceed with the application process, and the Fair staff was directed to get the application done.

New Business:

a. Consideration of Committee Application – Education and Royalty Committees

These applications were forwarded to the Committees for recommendations.

b. Vendor Application and Packet Review

The Vendor application was reviewed and the Board directed that it come back to the Board a final time before it going live on the website. The Board indicated that an email with the final version be routed for a final look over.

c. Fair Security Update and Review of Quote

The process for attempting to secure 4 quotes for security for Fair was outlined, and it was noted that only one bid came in from All Season Events & Security for $15,714.00 for about 582 hours for 2024. This quote is just slightly higher, by about $2,000, than the 2023 costs for security.

The board unanimously voted to approve this quote and prepare the needed contracts for finalizing security.

  1. Committee Reports
    • Premier Exhibitor – Landon Cogburn – Nothing new to report.
    • Carcass Contest – Isaia Aricayos – Kristy Campbell – No update
    • All-Around Showmanship – Aaron Helus – Nothing new to report.
    • Drug Testing – Courtney Smith – Lynn Erickson – Some additional edits to the Drug Testing Committee are forthcoming.
    • Education – Tom Bledsoe – Shannon Bailey – Cam’s Academy –Shannon Bailey stepping down as liaison with two new reps being recommend:  Brook Larson and Tony Gross.
    • Jr Livestock Sale – Landon Cogburn – Board – nothing to report at this time
    • Security, Parking, and Risk Management – Levi Loveland – chair vacant – looking for committee members
    • Royalty – Tom Bledsoe – nothing to report at this time
    • Livestock/Animal Health – Bailey Naibauer – Kristy Campbell –Nothing new to report at this time.
