Weld County Fair Board Minutes

February 3, 2025

The Meeting was called to order by President Aaron Helus at 6:00 p.m.

Members Present: Those present were President Aaron Helus, Vice President Landon Cogburn, Secretary Isaia Aricayos, Treasurer Courtney Smith, and Board Members and Tom Bledsoe.

Ex-Officio/Staff Present: Mikayla Gabel and Larry Hooker

Special Guests: Committee Member Katrina Loveland

Agenda: table Horse Show Policy until next month.

Motion to approve the Consent Agenda by Tom Bledsoe, second by Isaia Aricayos; additions made to agenda, motion passed.

Special Guests/Requests:

  1. Commissioner Ross Report -- unable to attend this evening due to a schedule conflict. 
  2. Royalty Update -- Queen Madison Miller -- lots of activities on schedule last month and a few scheduled for this month as well, a couple new sponsors secured as well. 

Old Business:

  1. Working Budget --updates received and added to the working budget.
  2. Fair Coordinator Update -- Cheryl starts next Monday as full Time Admin Assistant; 2 candidates interviewed for the open director position; chuckwagon cookoff working with Centennial Village; confirmed sponsorship for Fair Book, 1/2 of livestock streaming, bucket calf and lunches; new buckle vendor possible; great Farm Show and reaching out to potential sponsors; Beef ID planning going well -- no scale this year. 

New Business:

  1. Committee Reports (Board representation assignments drawn from hat annually)
  • Premier Exhibitor – Aaron Helus –meeting coming up.
  • Carcass Contest – Levi Loveland –nothing to report currently. 
  • All Around Showmanship – Isaia Aricayos – meeting coming up. 
  • Drug Testing – Courtney Smith – meeting coming up. 
  • Jr. Livestock Sale – Landon Cogburn – meeting coming up. 
  • Security, Parking, and Risk Management – Landon Cogburn – meeting being planned. 
  • Royalty – Tom Bledsoe –recommendations from the committee for apparel, chaperones, official appearances and invitations; motion by Tom Bledsoe to accept committee recommendations, no second to motion. Motion rescinded. Discussion of recommendations by board and counsel given to committee to have discussions with court. Motion by Tom Bledsoe to accept recommendations as discussed, second by Landon Cogburn; motion passed.
  • Livestock Animal Health – Bailey Naibauer –breeding/market nominations discussion continues, Larry found how State Fair handles nominations, Motion by Landon to follow State Fair and how they do nominations, second by Courtney; motion passed. 

Announcements/ General Discussion:

  1. Next Meeting Monday, March 3, 2025 @ 6:00 p.m.
  2. Director position posting still pending and will be open soon and remain until the end of December, interviews will likely by at the beginning of February.
