Weld County Fair Board Minutes

August 4, 2025


The Meeting was called to order by President Aaron Helus at 6:00 p.m.

Members Present: Those present were President Aaron Helus, Vice President Landon Cogburn, and Board Members Tom Bledsoe, Levi Loveland and Bailey Naibauer. Treasurer Courtney Smith was absent.

Ex-Officio/Staff Present: Mikayla Gabel, Kim Eastwood, and Cheryl Aragon

Special Guests: Schaefers

Agenda: Retinal Scanning added to New Business. Motion to approve agenda as amended by Landon Cogburn, second by Tom Bledsoe; motion passed.

Consent Agenda: Motion to approve July Financial report by Tom Bledsoe, second by Bailey Naibauer; motion passed. 

Special Guests/Requests:

  1. Commissioner Ross Report -- Commissioner Ross congratulated and recognizes the Board and all the volunteers and exhibitors this year for their exceptional hard work and support of the 2025 Weld County Fair. 
  2. Royalty Update -- Attendant Dakota Bernard stated their successful year and activities, new royalty court was announced at the Fair. 
  3. Schaefers -- protest submitted, Nona shared concerns she had with market beef this year, discussed events leading up to the situation and appreciated their commitment to Fair over the years and bringing this to our attention. 

Old Business:

  1. Working Budget -- nothing new to update at this time. 
  2. Fair Coordinator Update -- CORA request recevied for Royalty contestants, working with legal to complete request, Fair recap breakfast at 9a.m. at McCarty's Saturday 8/9/25.

New Business:

  1. Protest Received -- sending to Livestock Committee for review and consideration, no decision to be made or changed due to the protest and Fair already completed, Motion to reimburse (not charge) $100 protest fee due to no decision need to be changed or amended. 
  2. Retinal Scanning -- no scanning done prior to weigh-in for lambs, situation happened last year and this year, recommend implement new processes to check and preserve animal ID, any animals that need retag should be done prior to Fair and with a retinal scan at the office. Committee to review and bring back to the board for process consideration. 
  3. Livestock Animal Health -- Bailey Naibauer -- member term limits and applications have been received, sitting members can choose to return, applications are for open seats.

Announcements/ General Discussion:

  1. Next Meeting Monday, September 8, 2025 @ 6:00 p.m. at the Weld County Extension Office.
