Weld County Fair Board Minutes

April 7, 2025


The Meeting was called to order by President Aaron Helus at 6:00 p.m.

Members Present: Those present were President Aaron Helus, Vice President Landon Cogburn, Secretary Isaia Aricayos, Treasurer Courtney Smith, and Board Member Tom Bledsoe and Bailey Naibauer.

Ex-Officio/Staff Present: Mikayla Gabel, Larry Hooker, and Kim Easwood

Special Guests: Committee Member Katrina Loveland

Agenda: postpone SW Fair Board presentation

Motion to approve the Consent Agenda by Tom Bledsoe, second by Bailey Naibauer; additions made to agenda, motion passed.

Special Guests/Requests:

  1. Commissioner Ross Report -- Extension Director interviews occurred last week, and a great candidate identified, further information will be forthcoming.
  2. Royalty Update -- Attendant Aubrey Storm --a lot of activities and events last month and next month, fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse and other events next month. 

Old Business:

  1. Working Budget --updates added to the working budget, livestream sponsors found for shows
  2. Fair Coordinator Update -- additional sponsors obtained for fair and awards and volunteers, estimates for tent rentals received, vendor update- nonprofit group that supports youth entrepreneurs, kids will be selling on Saturday and Sunday of BBQ. Usual lemonade stand will not be allowed to return due to fees dispute with Island Grove. Another lemonade vendor has applied. 

New Business:

  1. Jr Fair Board -- proposal to replace Fair Royalty with a new program to promote the Fair and provide leadership and growth opportunities; very similar to YEC and Sale Ambassador program. There are a couple of other counties that have a similar program. MOTION by Tom Bledsoe to have both Jr. Fair Board and Royalty next year, then re-evaluate following the end of the year; second by Landon Cogburn, motion passed. 
  2. Committee SOP Minutes -- some board members are not received meeting minutes in a timely manner, discussion of tools like the Wave app can take minutes for meetings if needed. A conversation should be made with committee's that minutes should be submitted in a timely manner. 
  3. Committee Reports (Board representation assignments drawn from hat annually)
  • Premier Exhibitor – Aaron Helus – nothing new to report. 
  • Carcass Contest – Levi Loveland – nothing new to report.
  • All Around Showmanship – Isaia Aricayos – nothing new to report. 
  • Drug Testing – Courtney Smith – COOL forms are combined species forms not separate forms, but small animals was passed with separate species. Discussion is to require COOL forms for each species. Livestock committee will need to review this proposal. 
  • Education -- Fair Office -- Cam's Academy will continue for next year. 
  • Jr. Livestock Sale – Landon Cogburn – decided to go with Ringside Live for live streaming, not sure about add-ons online, still being discussed; backdrop changes and design is currently being planned and discussed. 
  • Security, Parking, and Risk Management – Landon Cogburn – work session scheduled for this Saturday. 
  • Royalty – Tom Bledsoe – nothing new to report. 
  • Livestock Animal Health – Bailey Naibauer – back tags are being required for beef to match with exhibitors, wristbands will be given to exhibitors and parents, ordered rabbit table, need to repair fence for chicken.
