ENTER THE 2010 FAIR BOOK LOGO CONTEST... 

The Weld County Fair Board is again offering the opportunity for 4-H, FFA and other youth groups to show their creative talents and help promote the Weld County Fair.  The youth must be 19 years of age and younger and active participants in the Weld County Fair.  The Fair Board needs a theme and logo to use in promoting the Fair. 

The theme or logo should be submitted on a standard size (8 ½" x 11") sheet of paper, vertically oriented, as an original graphic logo design or written theme.   The logo should include reference to 4-H, FFA and other youth groups.  All lettering should be done in black ink, not crayon or pencil.  The artwork can be in color.  The selected design will be used in 2010 fair promotions and will be displayed at the 2009 Weld County Fair.  A cash award of $50 will be given by the Fair Board and the artwork will become the property of the Fair Board.  Two youths can collaborate on a logo or theme, if desired. 

Entries must be submitted, or postmarked, no later than Friday, June 20th. Please deliver or send entries to the Weld County Fair Board c/o Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Office, Weld County, 525 North 15th Avenue, Greeley, CO  80631.  Include your name, address, and telephone number on the back of your artwork.

Bucket Calf Show Back to Top
When: Sunday, August 2 at 10:00 a.m. or after the All Round Showmanship
Where: Beef Show Ring in the North Oval
Entry Deadline:
July 10th
Rules:      
Rules:

1.  The Bucket Calf project will be open to all  
      youth ages four (4) to eight (8) years of
      age as of Dec. 31, 2008.

2.   Calves must be born after May 1 and prior to June 1, 2009.

3.   Exhibitor will be allowed to show only one calf.

4.   Bucket Calf judging will be on the child’s ability to handle the calf.  All calves must be halter broke.

5.   All Bucket Calves will be assigned to a specific area by superintendents and must be in place in the oval grass area by 9:30 a.m., Sunday, August 2.  Calves will be released immediately following the contest.

6.   All calves must be on the bucket or bottle at Fair time.  (No nurse cows)

7.   Calves may be of any breed or sex.

8.   Weld County Fair General Livestock rules relevant to stalls, care of livestock, and health are to be followed.

9.   Participants will receive ribbons only.  No premiums.

Pet and Doll Parade Back to Top
When: Sunday, August 3 at 1:00 p.m.
Where: Island Grove Regional Park South Oval Lawn Area
Registration:
Sign up at 12:30 p.m.
 

What’s a “Pet and Doll Parade?”

1.   Children 3 to 6 years old come dressed in an appropriate costume with their doll, stuffed animal, or pet dressed in a costume. 

2.   Each age group parades, in a circle, for the judge who selects 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place based on the costume and an interview.

3.   All entries receive a ribbon.


Gunnysack Race Back to Top
When: Sunday, August 3 after the Pet and Doll Parade
Where: Island Grove Regional Park South Oval Lawn Area

Rules:

1.  A gunny sack will be provided for each contestant.

2.  Contestants will line up at the start line in their    
     respective age group and the first one that hops
     across the finish line will be the winner.

3.  All entries will receive a ribbon.

4.  Age groups:  Pee-Wee – younger than 8; Youth - 8 to
    12; Teens - 13 to 17; Adults - 18 and older.

 


Three Legged Race Back to Top

Goat Obstacle Course Back to Top
When: Saturday, August 2 at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Event Center
Registration: Sign up at Event Center by 9:30 a.m.

If you are a kid and you have got a goat - then you can enter. Test your skills at encouraging your goat to go through a series of obstacles without touching the goat in any way. The event is timed and fun!

Rules:

1.  Two age groups:  12 years old & younger; 13 – 19 years old.

2.   Participants may take one goat through the course.

3.   Each goat may go through the course once.

4.   Each participant is allowed to go one time.

5.   Participants will be timed.

6.   Weld County Fair is not responsible for injuries to the goats or participants while participating in the Goat Obstacle Course.

7.   1st place in each age group will be awarded prizes, ribbons will be awarded through 7th place.  No premiums.

Sheep Lead Contest Back to Top

Where: Island Grove Regional Park - Event Center
Entry Deadline: July 10, 2009

 

Rules:

1.   Open to youth and adults of all ages.  Ownership of animals is not required for this contest.  Participants may use their own animal, or sponsor as many animals as they would like.  Participants not leading their own sheep must designate their sponsor in their resume.

2.   Sheep to be lead may or may not be registered ewes, regardless of breed shown.  Ewes must be conditioned, fitted and trained to show at halter.  All rules for exhibiting sheep at the Weld County Fair are applicable.

3.   The exhibitor will be judged on the mode of outfit selected.  The objective of this class is to present a stylish and attractive picture and to lend elegance to the class.  Exhibitors must provide their own outfits, but need not be hand made.  Previous winners are eligible, however must exhibit a different garment.

4.   All classes, except mini-youth, outfits should be made of a minimum of 50% wool.

5.   Resumes must be a maximum of 150 words, typed and delivered to the Weld County Fair Office by 5:00 p.m. of the day prior to the Sheep Lead Contest.

6.   Ribbons and awards only.

Judging Standards:

1.   The object of this class is to present sheep in the most attractive manner, to give the spectators an opportunity to see a class of beauty, to improve the sheep image and to encourage the wearing of wool garments.

2.   The exhibitor awarded the highest number of total points shall be declared the winner.  In case of a tie, bonus points awarded by creativity and originality will break the tie.

3.   Judges may interview the exhibitors.

Classes:

        Age is determined by December 31, 2008.

1.   Mini-Youth:  Exhibitor eight (8) years old and younger.

2.   Junior:  Exhibitors nine (9) to thirteen (13) years old.

3.   Senior:  Exhibitors fourteen (14) to eighteen (18) years old.

4.   Adults:  Exhibitors nineteen (19) years old and older.

1st Judge – judging the sheep (possible total of 60 points)

General appearance and fit (20 points) – Good breed character, size & Scale, body conformation, soundness and wool quality representing the breed.

Fitting the sheep (20 points) – The ewe should be attractively fitted and groomed, but not artificially colored or prepared.

Leading ability (20 points) – The ewe should respond calmly to the halter.  She should “walk out” in a deliberate and natural manner.

2nd Judge – judging the exhibitor (possible total of 60 points)

General appearance and fit (20 points) – Grooming:  Hairstyle and make-up should enhance rather than distract from the chosen garment.  The exhibitor should handle themselves and their animal with poise in the show ring.  Garments should fit well and accessories should be applied in a tasteful manner.

Coordination of outfit (20 points) – The outfit should be appropriate for the age, size and type of exhibitor.  The outfit should be coordinated and present a pleasing, eye-appealing effort.

Fashion consciousness (20 points) – The attire should reflect the current fashion trends and compliment the exhibitor.

3rd Judge – judging the overall picture (possible total of 80 points)

Function of the Ewe and the Exhibitor (20 points) - The exhibitor and their animal should work together smoothly.  Both should appear competent and compliment each other.

Overall effect (20 Points) - The exhibitor and ewe should present a coordinated look.  The pair should provide an attractive and realistic representation of the use of wool.

Control of the sheep (20 Points) - The exhibitor and the ewe should “work” together.  They should appear with poise, and ease in their movements before the judges and around the show ring.

Personality (20 Points) - The exhibitor should appear pleasant, natural, sincere and unaffected.  Courtesy should be shown towards other exhibitors and staff.
